The Office of Management and Budget defines Chattanooga as a part of the Chattanooga Metropolitan Statistical Area, the fourth-largest MSA in Tennessee. Chattanooga is a part of a tri-state area and is a central transit hub, served by multiple railroads and large interstates, which attracts the city’s population of 182,799 residents. The highest point in Tennessee is Clingman’s Dome at 6,643 feet, and the lowest point is the Mississippi River.  

Chattanooga has been coined “The Scenic City” due to its view of surrounding mountains and beautiful scenery that can be seen from a majority of spots in the city. As the birthplace of the tow truck and the destination of the Chattanooga Choo Choo, Chattanooga has made waves in the automobile industry and continues to thrive in the industry today. Many well-known companies have large branch offices and manufacturing facilities in the city including Amazon, Cigna, Volkswagen, AT&T, and the world’s first Coca Cola bottling plant. The city attracts several tourists to downtown attractions such as the Tennessee Aquarium, Creative Discovery Museum, Chattanooga Choo Choo Hotel, and Tennessee Riverwalk. Although big business is thriving in Chattanooga, downtown offers a wide variety of locally owned restaurants, coffee shops, retail stores, and other small businesses. Chattanooga’s population is made up of a mix of families, college students, corporate employees, and small business owners, which all add to the vibrance and diversity the city has to offer. 

Chattanooga’s climate is similar to much of Tennessee, which means generally mild winters and warm, humid summers. The summer high is around 89°F, and the winter low falls to around 29°F. Chattanooga receives an average of 51 inches of rain and about 2 inches of snowfall per year.
